From Chaos to Clarity

Every 10 minutes, Brightcast reads thousands of articles, scores them for positivity and impact, and delivers the stories worth your time. Here's exactly how it works.

1

We Read Everything

Our AI scans thousands of articles every 10 minutes from verified news sources around the world. We're talking major newspapers, trusted online publications, and established news agencies—not random blogs or suspicious websites.

Think of it like having a really dedicated friend who reads the entire internet for you, but only remembers the good stuff. Except this friend never sleeps and processes information way faster than any human could.

Fun fact: We analyze around 50,000+ articles per day. You see about 90 of the best ones.

2

The BIS Score Decides

Every article gets a BIS (Brightcast Intelligence Score) from 0-100. This isn't just "is it happy or sad?"—it's way more sophisticated. Our AI analyzes:

  • Impact: Does this story show real progress or solutions?
  • Reach: Does this affect many people or just a small group?
  • Verification: Is the source credible? Can we verify the claims?
  • Emotional tone: Is this uplifting without being manipulative?

Only articles scoring 25 or higher make it to your feed. That's our quality bar—stories that are genuinely positive AND actually newsworthy.

Why 25? After testing thousands of articles, we found that 25 is the sweet spot where stories are both uplifting and substantial. Below that, articles tend to be either too trivial or not positive enough to meaningfully improve your mood.

3

We Check the Facts

Positive news is only useful if it's actually true. Before any story reaches you, we verify:

  • The source is a reputable publication with editorial standards
  • The article cites credible sources or data
  • The claims are verifiable and not exaggerated
  • The publication date is recent (we don't recycle old news)

We're not looking for toxic positivity or fake news—just actual good things happening in the world, properly verified and reported by real journalists.

4

Duplicates Get Removed

When big news breaks, every outlet covers it. Without filtering, you'd see the same story 50 times. Our system detects duplicate stories and keeps only the best version—usually the one with the most depth or the clearest writing.

We also track what you've already seen over the past 48 hours, so you never get served the same story twice (unless it's been updated with new information).

5

It Hits Your Phone

The entire process—from scanning to scoring to verification—happens every 10 minutes. That means you're always getting fresh stories, not yesterday's news reheated.

We process about 15-30 new articles per cycle, so there's always something new to read without overwhelming you with hundreds of stories per day.

No ads, no clickbait, no drama. Just solid journalism about progress, solutions, and the good happening around the world.

What's Actually Under the Hood

For the nerds (said with love): Brightcast uses Claude AI for sentiment analysis and scoring, RSS feed aggregation for content discovery, and a custom algorithm we built for duplicate detection and source ranking.

The whole system runs on Railway with PostgreSQL for storage and Redis for caching. Every 10 minutes, a scheduled function kicks off the crawl → score → verify → publish pipeline.

We're constantly tweaking the BIS algorithm based on user feedback. If you see something that doesn't feel right, let us know—we actually read every message and use it to improve the scoring.
