Septem Studio, a British company known for compact outdoor gear, has created a new portable grill. Called the GrilTi Ever, it's currently seeking support on Kickstarter.
A Grill That Grows With You
The GrilTi Ever uses a modular design, much like Lego bricks. You can expand its cooking area by adding more sets. This means you can adjust the grill size based on how many people you are feeding.
Each set is a complete grill with its own cooking surface and legs. A single set weighs 1.5 kg (3.3 lb) and can cook for two to four people. It folds flat to 314 x 345 x 8 mm (12.4 x 13.3 x 0.3 in). When assembled, it measures 265 x 314 x 288 mm (10.4 x 12.4 x 11.3 in). Adding another set doubles the cooking area, making it suitable for four to eight people. You can add as many sets as needed.

Start Your News DetoxThe grill folds flat and can be set up in about 30 seconds. It uses notches to slot parts together, so no tools or small bolts are needed. Connecting multiple sets is also simple, as they snap together.
This modular design is practical for backcountry trips. You can split the parts among several people, rather than one person carrying the whole grill. You also only bring the number of sets you need for your group size.
The grill is made of titanium, built to handle repeated heating. The legs are lightweight aluminum. Septem Studio says there are no rust-prone parts or coatings that wear out.
Versatile Cooking and Easy Cleanup
The cooking surface has two equal zones. One half has openings for grilling steaks, burgers, and skewers. The other half is a solid titanium plate for searing and frying with pots and pans. This allows you to cook multiple items at once.
An extra panel helps keep cooked food warm. It attaches to the side of the grill, sitting above the cooking area. It gets enough heat to keep food warm without burning it.
Heat control is managed by removable side panels. These panels adjust airflow, which changes the fire's intensity. Two panels provide lower heat and a slower burn. One panel offers even, balanced heat. Removing all panels gives maximum heat for a quick sear.
The GrilTi Ever can use four types of fuel: lump charcoal, charcoal briquettes, wood chunks, and firewood.
Cleaning is simplified by a removable lower tray for charcoal. After cooking and cooling, you just lift the tray and tip out the ashes.
Once dinner is done, you can remove the cooking panel. This lets the fire keep burning, turning the grill into a small campfire for warmth.
An early-bird price on Kickstarter is £139 (about US$188) for one set. The retail price will be £225 (about $305). If the campaign succeeds, shipping is planned for mid-December.
