Petfinder, an online pet adoption platform, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. To mark the milestone, the company launched an initiative to help shelter pets across the country.
The program aims to grant three wishes for shelter pets: a full bowl of food, a flight to a better chance at adoption, and a home.
Feeding Shelter Pets
From August 17 to November 16, certain actions on the Petfinder platform will lead to a donation of about 1.5 million pounds of pet food from Purina.

Start Your News DetoxFor example, favoriting a pet profile or creating an adopter profile on Petfinder provides one meal for a shelter pet. Submitting an adoption inquiry form provides a full day of meals.
Rescue Flights for New Homes
Petfinder's "Runway to Forever" campaign also funds two rescue flights. These flights move pets from crowded shelters to communities where they are more likely to be adopted.
This effort, in partnership with Greater Good Charities, will relocate over 100 pets. One flight is bringing pets from Los Angeles, California, to New Jersey. This gives them a new chance to find loving homes.
Jeremy Colborn, director of transport for Greater Good Charities, said this collective effort helps vulnerable pets. He noted that the campaign provides millions of meals and life-saving flights to animals nationwide.
Since 1996, Petfinder has helped with 40 million adoptions. This involved over 12,000 shelters and rescue groups across the country.
Kristen Beckerle, Petfinder’s brand director, explained that Petfinder's simple idea 30 years ago was to connect pets and people. This idea grew into a movement, changing how people find their next best friend.
Beckerle added that as Petfinder celebrates 30 years, they want to give back to pets still waiting for homes, not just celebrate those who have already found them.
