More than five years after Chadwick Boseman's death from colon cancer in August 2020, Hollywood is formally recognizing the actor who redefined what it meant to be a leading man on screen. He was 43.
Boseman will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on November 20, with his widow Simone Ledward-Boseman accepting on his behalf. Ryan Coogler, who directed Black Panther, and Viola Davis, his co-star in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, will speak at the ceremony.
"The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is deeply honored to celebrate Chadwick Boseman's extraordinary legacy with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame," said Ana Martinez, the Walk of Fame producer. "His powerful performances and enduring impact both on and off screen continue to inspire generations around the world."

Boseman's career arc was brief but consequential. He emerged as a serious actor in 2013's 42, playing Jackie Robinson with the kind of quiet dignity that signaled a different kind of leading man was arriving. He followed with Marshall and then, in 2016, debuted as King T'Challa in Captain America: Civil War—the same year he was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer, a fact he kept private for years.
That he continued working at that level—delivering the performances that made Black Panther a cultural phenomenon, earning an Oscar nomination for Ma Rainey's Black Bottom—while managing a serious illness reframed how people understood his work after his death. The Colon Cancer Foundation noted what his colleagues and audiences came to recognize: "Everyone who watched him on screen knew that Chadwick Boseman was an outstanding actor. Many people also knew he was a social justice advocate and an amazing role model. Now we realize that he was also a real-life superhero, showing us what we are capable of achieving no matter what the circumstance."
The star will be located at 6904 Hollywood Boulevard, in front of the Hollywood Experience. It's a formal acknowledgment of what his work already proved—that his influence extended far beyond the roles he played, into how people understood themselves and what was possible.
