Most educators just want to shape young minds and maybe, just maybe, get through a Tuesday. They certainly don't sign up to be human shields. But Principal Kirk Moore of Pauls Valley High School in Oklahoma? He did just that.
So, when it came time for prom, his students decided a simple 'thank you' card wasn't quite going to cut it. They crowned him prom king. Because apparently, that's what you do when your principal literally takes a bullet for you.

The video, which has since gone properly viral, shows students erupting in cheers as Moore walks to the front, the Nickelback anthem "Hero" (because of course) playing in the background. It's a scene that manages to be both heartwarming and a stark reminder of why he earned that crown in the first place.

Back on April 7, 2026 (a date that probably feels like yesterday to those students), a former student attempted a school shooting. Principal Moore didn't hesitate. He stepped in, took a bullet, and stopped a potentially catastrophic event, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. Let that sink in for a moment.
His students, acutely aware of the kind of person who stands between them and danger, clearly didn't forget. So, when the prom ballots came out, they didn't vote for the quarterback or the head cheerleader. They voted for the guy who put his life on the line. Which, if you think about it, is both impressive and slightly terrifying.
One commenter perfectly summed up the sentiment, noting, "The way they are all cheering and putting the crown on him, you can tell how much he means to them. That is the kind of principal you never forget." Another added, "What an amazing trajectory this man’s story has taken! He deserves it."
It's a powerful reminder that sometimes, the most extraordinary acts come from the people just trying to get through their ordinary day. And sometimes, those people get a crown, a sash, and a slow dance with the prom queen.
