Venezuela Dominates
Venezuelan players were told to avoid political comments during the tournament. They dominated the USA lineup for much of the game. Starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez kept American batters, including Aaron Judge, in check.
Venezuela scored first in the third inning. USA starter Nolan McLean struggled with his pitching. Salvador Perez singled, and Ronald Acuna Jr walked. A wild pitch moved runners to second and third. Maikel Garcia's sacrifice fly then allowed Perez to score.
In the fifth inning, Venezuela doubled its lead. McLean threw a fastball that Wilyer Abreu hit for a 414-foot solo home run. This made the score 2-0.
Harper's 432-foot home run in the eighth inning tied the game. But Venezuela quickly responded in the ninth. Luis Arraez walked, and Suarez hit a double to left-center field, bringing in the winning run.
Closer Daniel Palencia then retired Kyle Schwarber, Gunnar Henderson, and Roman Anthony to seal Venezuela's victory.
