Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo scored an incredible 83 points against the Washington Wizards. This historic game on Tuesday became the second-highest scoring performance in NBA history.
Adebayo shot 20-43 from the field and made 7-22 three-pointers. A significant 36 of his 83 points came from the free-throw line, where he shot 36 of 43.
A Record-Breaking Night
Before this game, Adebayo was averaging 18.9 points per night. This placed him outside the top 40 scorers in the league. His 83-point game now puts him second only to Wilt Chamberlain for most points in a single NBA game. He surpassed Kobe Bryant's 81-point game from 2006.

"Because I’ve always wanted to have a conversation with him. He’ll probably say, ‘Go do it again.’" He called it a "surreal moment" to be in the company of someone he idolized.

NBA Stars React
Many NBA stars shared their amazement at Adebayo's performance.
LeBron James, the NBA's all-time leading scorer, simply wrote "BAM BAM BAM" on X. Jalen Brunson reacted with "Bro, what?" Former Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade posted, "83 for Cap."
Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant also commented on the achievement. "I couldn’t believe it when I was hearing about it in real time," Durant said. "He got 30 in the first quarter... Congratulations to Bam. I know how much work he puts in."
Durant noted the effort involved: "I looked at the statsheet, and it’s pretty crazy, 40 shots, 40 free throws, 20 threes, that takes a lot of stamina man, that takes a lot of energy to not only go out there to put those shots up, but also make them to set the record to surpass Kobe [Bryant] as the second-highest scorer in the history of the game."
