Turns out, you can teach an old GOAT new tricks. Lionel Messi, the Argentinian maestro, just did what he does best: broke a record that seemed almost untouchable. He now holds the title for most World Cup goals scored by a man, ever. Because apparently, that's where we are now.
The magic moment happened during Argentina's recent match against Austria. Messi netted his 17th goal in the first half, casually strolling past the previous record. Then, just to prove he wasn't done, he added another one in the second half, sealing Argentina's 2-0 victory. Which, if you think about it, is both impressive and slightly terrifying for any opposing defense.
Messi, who also happens to be the team captain, has been on a tear this World Cup. He kicked things off with a hat trick in Argentina's opener against Algeria and has, so far, personally accounted for all five of Argentina's goals in the tournament. Let that sink in. All of them.
