TravelBird, an outdoor gear company from Hong Kong, has created a new modular sleeping bag called ThermoShift. It's currently seeking funding on Kickstarter. The company aims to help campers pack less without giving up comfort.
Seven Functions in One Design
The ThermoShift can be used in seven ways: as a blanket, poncho, warm hat, hammock underquilt, top quilt, picnic mat, and sleeping bag. It's essentially a rectangular insulated panel with zippers, buckles, and drawstrings. Adjusting these parts changes its function.
In sleeping bag mode, you can tighten elastic drawstrings at the shoulders and feet to create a cozy space. If you're camping with a partner, two ThermoShifts can zip together to form a larger sleeping bag.

The poncho mode lets you move your hands freely while staying warm. A hood attaches to a central zipper, and side buckles keep the fabric secure. This is handy for tasks like reaching for a coffee mug by the campfire. The hat is a separate piece that can be worn as a hood or attached to the sleeping bag.

For hammock users, the ThermoShift can attach underneath as an underquilt. This helps block cold air from below. It can also work as a top quilt by tightening the foot box and placing it over you. When fully unzipped and without the hat, it becomes a top quilt or a picnic mat.
Design and Specifications
The ThermoShift has several layers. These include a soft inner lining, synthetic fiber insulation, a heat-reflective film, a waterproof polyurethane coating, and a wind-resistant nylon shell. The lining has a honeycomb pattern that reflects body heat, which reportedly reduces heat loss by up to 10%.
The sleeping bag is comfortable between 7 ºC and 15 °C (45 ºF to 59 °F). Its extreme temperature rating is 0 °C (32 °F). It weighs 1.2 kg (2.65 lb) and packs down to 28 x 20 x 20 cm (11.81 x 7.87 x 7.87 inches). In sleeping bag mode, it measures 230 x 75 cm (90.6 x 29.5 in), including the attached hat. It is also machine-washable on a delicate cycle.

The ThermoShift comes in army green and black. An early-bird pledge on Kickstarter is $69, with a planned retail price of $128. Shipping is expected to start within 60 days after the campaign ends.
