Brembo is known for its braking systems in F1 racecars and MotoGP superbikes. Now, the company is bringing its expertise to mountain biking. They have created a new line of gear called GR-Pro, designed for serious stopping power.

The GR-Pro system includes brake calipers, master cylinders, brake pads, brake discs, steel braided hoses, and special mineral oil. This equipment is built for competition-level performance in mountain, downhill, and eMTB riding.

Developed for Performance

Brembo has been working on these bike brakes for several years. Last year, Specialized's Gravity Team used Brembo's kit on their bicycles for the UCI MTB World Series. This testing helped Brembo perfect the system, ensuring it offers great power, adjustability, and control.

Riders can choose between 200-mm or 220-mm stainless steel discs. These discs are 2.3-mm thick and have spokes inspired by motorcycles. They work with a two-piece forged alloy caliper, which comes in Brembo's signature red color. Each caliper has four 18-mm pistons. The brake pads use a special compound made by Brembo for strong grip and stability even at high temperatures.

The master cylinder is designed to be oversized. It offers three levels of lever ratio adjustment, letting riders fine-tune how the lever feels. There are also seven levels of dead stroke adjustment for the bite point and 40 positions to adjust the reach, fitting different hand sizes.

Brembo states that the discs are made to cool down quickly. The mineral oil also keeps its thickness stable across many temperatures. This entire setup aims to provide excellent braking performance, especially when riding fast downhill.

The kit has been developed over years with testing assistance from Specialized's Gravity racing team

Availability and Cost

The GR-Pro system will be available starting in July, launching first in Europe. This high-performance gear comes with a premium price. Bikeradar reported that the kit, which includes calipers, levers, hoses, and two sets of pads, costs €750 (about US$880) in Europe. The brake discs are sold separately.

You can choose between 200-mm and 220-mm discs to combine with the forged caliper, which features custom compound pads and four 18-mm pistons
