Mitsubishi is expanding its electric vehicle lineup with a new crossover. Australia will see this new model, called the ASX VR-e, later this year.
The ASX VR-e has a distinct look with a single headlamp design and a recessed grille. This design comes from Pininfarina, an Italian firm known for its work with Ferrari, Maserati, and other major car brands.
A Familiar Design
The ASX VR-e is actually a rebadged version of the Foxtron Bria. The Bria is made for Taiwan by Foxtron, the automotive branch of Foxconn, which manufactures iPhones.

Start Your News DetoxThe Bria was first shown a few years ago and went on sale in Taiwan last December. It offers sleek styling and a reasonable price, starting at about AU$40,000 (US$28,000).
The base model of the Bria features a 230-hp electric motor at the rear and a 57.7-kWh LFP battery. Foxtron claims it can go from zero to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds and has a 320-mile (516 km) NEDC driving range.
The top-end Bria has dual motors, producing 400 hp and offering all-wheel drive. It can reach 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds. With the same battery, it offers about 290 miles (466 km) of range. It also supports 134-kW DC fast charging, which can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes.
Mitsubishi says the ASX VR-e will have some unique styling elements for its front, rear, cabin, and wheels. However, the two models currently look very similar.
Features and Availability
Details on the ASX VR-e's battery and powertrain options across its four variants are not yet known. Experts note that NEDC range tests can be overly optimistic, so real-world range might be slightly less.
Based on the Bria, the ASX VR-e is expected to include a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, wireless charging, advanced driver-assistance systems like cruise control and lane-keeping, a 360-degree parking camera, and a powered tailgate.

It is unclear if or when Mitsubishi will bring this model to the US market. The brand is planning to revive its Pajero SUV, with a US launch possibly around 2030.
For Australian buyers looking for a compact SUV, the ASX VR-e will compete with models like the MG 4 and BYD Dolphin. It is expected to arrive in the fourth quarter of this year.
