The Financial Times has ranked MIT Sloan School of Management as number one in its 2026 Global MBA Ranking. This is the first time the school has reached the top spot on this list.
The publication noted that MIT's management school leads the ranking because students are increasingly focused on technology, including artificial intelligence. This focus helps them prepare for changes in the workplace.
Why MIT Sloan Stands Out
Andrew Jack, the global education editor, explained on the Financial Times News Briefing podcast that MIT is central to the current tech revolution. He said there's a growing conversation about AI and technical skills, especially how to use AI in the workplace. This reflects MIT's history in technical and computer science fields. MIT Sloan also works closely with other university departments. This shows how the job market and student goals are changing.

How the Rankings Are Determined
The Financial Times uses 21 factors to create its rankings. More than half of the ranking (56%) comes from surveys of alumni three years after they finish their MBA. School data makes up 34% of the rank. The remaining 10% looks at how often full-time faculty publish in top academic journals.
MIT Sloan also ranked fourth for its alumni network. This measures how well alumni support each other with career advice, internships, job opportunities, and recruitment.
Kathy Hawkes, senior associate dean of external engagement, highlighted the strength of their alumni community. She said "Sloanies Helping Sloanies" is a core value. The school's 31,000 alumni actively help each other succeed by opening doors and sharing knowledge.
