Jason Bradley Deford, better known as the musician Jelly Roll, has never been shy about his past. We're talking years in and out of prison, a serious drug habit, and missing his daughter Bailee's birth in 2008 because he was, well, incarcerated.
Which makes her recent 18th birthday a moment worth pausing for. Because apparently, redemption stories still exist.

On May 28, Jelly Roll took to social media to celebrate Bailee hitting the big 1-8, and graduating high school. And the message? It was less about cake and more about breaking cycles.

Start Your News DetoxHe pointed out that his own 18th birthday looked a tad different from Bailee's. He wanted her to know just how much she inspires him, which, if you think about it, is a pretty wild turnaround for a dad who once couldn't be there.
"Today you turned 18 years old and graduate high school... today you accomplish something very very very few people in this family have ever accomplished, including myself... you are not only a high school graduate. You are soon to be a college student," he wrote.
He didn't stop there. He went on to say, "When we talk about generational curses and breaking them, you literally are the epitome of that. You are kind, smart, caring, loving, adventurous, funny, sassy, honest. To put it plainly you were everything I have never been."
Which is about as honest and heartfelt a birthday shout-out as you're likely to find on the internet. Fans, as you might expect, were right there with him, calling Bailee an "inspiration to so many other chain breakers" and wishing they had a dad with that kind of support.
It’s a reminder that sometimes, the best way to change your own story is to help someone else write a better one.
