Turns out, Keanu Reeves has been quietly supporting cancer research for more than 20 years. And get this: he's been doing it through a private foundation, without ever putting his name on it.
Most people know Keanu for his roles in movies like "The Matrix" and "John Wick." But back in 1991, his younger sister, Kim, was diagnosed with leukemia. Keanu dropped everything to be there for her, even moving closer to provide support.
Kim once told PEOPLE magazine that Keanu was her "prince." She said he listened to her every word. When the pain was bad, he'd sit with her and hold her hand.

Inspired by Kim's decade-long fight, which ended in remission in 2001, Keanu's commitment to fighting cancer grew. It later came out that he gave away about 70% of his earnings from "The Matrix" — that's around $31.5 million — directly to cancer research.
But his generosity didn't stop there. In 2008, he helped out with Stand Up To Cancer, answering calls during their big fundraiser. He even auctioned off a 15-minute Zoom date, which raised $16,600 for Camp Rainbow Gold, a charity for kids with cancer.
More recently, in 2023, he auctioned a signed "John Wick 4" uniform to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. These acts are pretty public, but the real impact comes from his secret foundation.
"I have a private foundation that’s been running for five or six years," Keanu told Ladies Home Journal in 2009. "It helps aid a couple of children’s hospitals and cancer research." He added, "I don’t like to attach my name to it. I just let the foundation do what it does."
That's a seriously cool move. Imagine making that kind of difference for so long, all while staying out of the spotlight. It just proves that some of the biggest heroes work behind the scenes.
