Pyronex calls its product a "small stove with large capacity." It weighs 1.9 kg (4.18 lb) and measures 18.7 x 18.7 x 10.9 cm (7.36 x 7.36 x 4.29 in) when unfolded. Fuel and Features
The Pyronex stove has a 380-ml fuel tank. Its creators say it can burn for up to eight hours on one fill. This is at the lowest flame setting in "lantern" mode. It uses either kerosene or 90% alcohol. You add fuel through a side port. Any leftover fuel can be drained from the bottom. The stove is lit through its front door.
The enclosed design helps the stove resist wind. This keeps the flame steady in different weather. You can change the flame's strength with a rotary control on the side. A clear door lets you watch the flame and closes securely with a latch.
The stove uses a fiberglass wick that can last for over 300 uses. For someone who camps a few weekends a season, this means the wick could last several years.
Cooking and Heating Capabilities
The device stands on four folding legs for stability. Its flat top can hold frying pans, mugs, and kettles. It also works with barbecue racks.
Pyronex is designed as an all-in-one outdoor cooking system. It can handle many dishes, from fried eggs to steak. It can even be used for baking. One thing to consider is heat distribution. While it supports medium-sized cookware, larger pans might not heat evenly. For big groups, a traditional campfire might be better.
The product also works as a heater. However, because it burns liquid fuel, it's important to use it in well-ventilated areas. It should not be placed inside tents or RVs without proper airflow.
Early supporters can get a Pyronex for a Kickstarter pledge of US$59. The planned retail price is $89. Shipping is expected in October.
