When cityscapes make it hard for photographers to find even ground, Silence Corner offers a solution. They created the Viperpod, a hybrid tripod that can hang almost anywhere. This allows for easy solo shooting.

The Viperpod is currently on Kickstarter. It gets its name because it looks like a viper ready to strike when its central axis is flipped. Its three legs, made of carbon fiber and aluminum, then extend into place.

Smart Design for Easy Use

The device weighs 2.55 pounds (1.16 kg). It has an external center column, unlike most tripods. This design saves time because you don't need to pull out and flip the column before use.

Because the center column is outside, the folded size is 17.7 inches (45 cm). This is 20% smaller, making it lighter and easier to carry. It fits in a backpack, pocket, or the included bag. The tripod can extend up to 61.8 inches (157 cm) and go as low as 17.5 inches (44.4 cm). It can hold up to 17.6 pounds (8 kg) of gear.

The external flip-center column also turns the Viperpod into a pan and tilt handle. This helps with stable video shooting. However, the designers note it's not a fluid head system, so a separate fluid head is needed for that.

Creative Shooting Options

The Viperpod features a C-shaped inverted ball head with two panoramic modes. This gives photographers more freedom to compose shots at different angles. An enlarged locking knob makes it easy to use even with gloves, which is helpful for long night exposures.

At the bottom of the center column, there's a strong aluminum alloy hook. You can hang your backpack on it for extra stability in windy conditions.

With its legs spread wide, the Viperpod is able to get down very low

Viperpod Light Model

There is also a Viperpod Light model. It weighs 2.1 pounds (960 g) and is a bit shorter. It can hold 13.2 pounds (6 kg) of gear and is made from the same carbon fiber and aluminum. Its folded size is 15.4 inches (39.3 cm), with a maximum extension of 53 inches (135 cm) and a minimum height of 15.5 inches (39.5 cm).

The Viperpod Light is available for a $279 pledge on Kickstarter. The standard Viperpod is $309. If funding and production go as planned, shipping is expected in September.
