Imagine dedicating your entire career to a single, increasingly urgent cause. For Willie Tucker, affectionately known as "Pa Willie," that cause has been the critically endangered Western chimpanzees of Sierra Leone. For three decades, he’s been on the front lines, a steady presence amidst the chaos of habitat loss and illegal wildlife trade.

Start Your News DetoxAs the sanctuary's camp supervisor, Pa Willie has been there for every single rescue, every new arrival, every triumph, and every heartbreaking struggle. He’s seen hundreds of chimpanzees come through Tacugama, each with its own story of displacement and danger. He’s also witnessed firsthand the escalating threats these intelligent creatures face, from deforestation to the insatiable demands of the illegal pet trade.
His dedication isn't just a job; it's a testament to what one person can achieve when they decide to stand between an endangered species and the forces threatening its existence. A quiet hero, indeed, making a profound difference, one chimp at a time.
