On April 29, Charlotte, North Carolina, is hosting a gathering of brilliant minds, all focused on one delicious goal: stopping food waste. It's the 10th Annual Stop Food Waste Day, and Food Tank is teaming up with Compass Group and Envision Charlotte to make sure no good bite goes to waste.
Because, let's be honest, who hasn't stared into a fridge and wondered how that perfectly good yogurt ended up in the back, growing a new civilization? This global initiative brings together an eclectic mix of leaders — from the culinary world to agriculture, hospitality, business, and even local nonprofits. They're all there to share their secrets for keeping food out of landfills, which, if you think about it, is both impressive and slightly terrifying how much ends up there.

And it's not just the seasoned pros. The event will also feature young storytellers and producers, proving that the next generation isn't just TikToking; they're also leading the charge against food waste. Because apparently that's where we are now.
We're a new kind of news feed.
Regular news is designed to drain you. We're a non-profit built to restore you. Every story we publish is scored for impact, progress, and hope.
Start Your News DetoxAfter the main program, attendees can hit up a reception and explore interactive displays at Envision Charlotte’s Innovation Barn. It’s a chance to network, celebrate the progress made, and get genuinely excited about solutions that use our food better. Which, let's be frank, we could all use a little more of.
The speaker list is a veritable who's who of food saviors. We're talking Amy Aussieker from Envision Charlotte, Richard Armenia from Feeding Charlotte, and Michiel Bakker from the Culinary Institute of America. Eliza Blank from Farmlink will be there, alongside Palmer Brown and Chris Ivens-Brown from Compass Group, and Chayil Johnson from Community Matters Cafe. Even Chef Sam Kass from Acre Venture Partners and Trove is on the bill, plus Amy Keister from Compass Group, Riley Nelson from NASCAR, and Danielle Nierenberg from Food Tank. Kris Steele from Crown Town Compost, Harry Tannenbaum from Mill, and Alyssa Wilen from Alyssa’s Kitchen round out the current list, with more names still to be announced. Someone's going to need a bigger name tag.

If you're keen to join the food-saving festivities in Charlotte, you can reach out to Kenzie Wade at [email protected]. For those who can’t make it in person (perhaps you're busy rescuing a rogue cucumber), a live stream will be available on April 29. So you can still join the revolution, even if it's from your couch.
