Imagine finding a sea turtle named Helvetica. Well, that's exactly what's happening at the New England Aquarium, where rescued turtles are getting names like your favorite fonts.
This past winter was rough. Almost 500 live sea turtles washed up on Cape Cod Bay. They were suffering from something called "cold stunning." Basically, the ocean water got too cold, too fast, shocking these cold-blooded creatures. It makes them weak, unable to swim, and super vulnerable.

Most of these turtles were stabilized and sent to other care centers. But 58 of them are still recovering at the New England Aquarium's Sea Turtle Hospital in Quincy, Massachusetts. They're healing from broken shells, infections, and other serious injuries. Some have a long road ahead before they can head back to the ocean.

The aquarium team has a cool tradition: they name the turtles that need long-term care. This year, they picked their favorite fonts. Seriously. So, you've got critically endangered Kemp's ridley turtles named Cavolini and Franklin. Two loggerheads are now Pretty Princess and Helvetica. And then there's Verdana and Chunk.
Sammi Chaves, a rescue biologist, says naming them brings a lot of joy. It's a sign that the turtles are out of immediate danger and are now on the mend. Even though many still need medical treatments, they’ve made huge progress. The big goal, of course, is to get them healthy enough to go home.

Once the water warms up this summer, the plan is to release most of these font-named turtles. They'll swim free off Cape Cod into the Nantucket Sound. Until then, these unique patients are in seriously good hands.
