Remember when checking the weather meant zoning out to smooth jazz and those blocky, pixelated graphics? Good news: The Weather Channel just brought it all back. No, this isn't an April Fool's joke that's tragically late; it's the official RetroCast, and it's glorious.
Apparently, enough of us collectively pined for the days of dial-up modems and frosted tips that The Weather Channel listened. Fredo's team redesigned the whole aesthetic to fit modern screens, ensuring that blocky, retro goodness looks just as good on your 4K monitor as it did on your CRT. And this isn't a temporary stunt. RetroCast Now is here to stay, with plans to let users toggle between the new and old looks on the homepage soon. Future themed projects are also apparently in the pipeline, which makes one wonder if we're getting a full-on 80s synth-wave forecast next.
So, if you've been missing the days when a weather forecast felt less like a data dump and more like a chill, televised experience, your time has come. Just try not to get too lost in the smooth jazz. You still need to know if it’s going to rain.
