"No Mow May" Boosts Biodiversity
"No Mow May" is helping gardens in England become more biodiverse. This initiative encourages wildflowers to grow, which helps bring back grassland areas. One gardener noted they become "addicted" to seeing what grows.
This idea could expand to other places and even continue all year.
Paid Family Leave in New York
New York state's paid family leave law is helping more new parents in New York City take postpartum leave. Data from the city's health department shows fewer parents face issues like not being able to afford leave or fearing job loss.
However, there's still progress to be made. Lower-income residents on Medicaid are less likely to take paid leave than those with private insurance. Racial differences also remain, with white or Asian and Pacific Islander parents most likely to take leave.
